Body, hat, hands, guitars — just before assembly.
A smoking figurine of native wood, handcrafted in Seiffen — a small monument to the singer from the Bohemian Ore Mountains. Turned, glued, painted and lacquered in the workshop of Eva Beyer.
Body, hat, hands, guitars — just before assembly.
Hair, set strand by strand — Anton gets his beard.
The master craftswoman assembles the many individual parts into a whole.
Preparation in the spray booth.
Several thin coats of clear lacquer — air-dried between passes.
Tools, brushes, glue — the stage on which Anton came to be.
What stood in early April 2026 as a draft on the lathe is now complete: with guitar, song sheet and the characteristic Hutzenabend expression, Anton Günther sits as a smoking figurine on his bench. Between the two photographs lay weeks of detailed craftsmanship.
Body on the lathe — native maple, beech and alder, air-dried for at least three years. Wall thickness around four millimetres, all a matter of eye and hand.
Base and body are joined piece by piece, each connection aligned individually. Here the turned blank becomes a smoking figurine.
Fine grain sands every edge and transition. Only now does the figure gain its smooth surface — the foundation for every clean coat of paint.
Eyes, mouth, hat and clothing are painted by hand in fine layers. Every figurine takes on its own expression — no two are alike.
Several coats on base and figure — air-dried between layers, until the wood takes on its quiet, warm depth.
In Eva Beyer's workshop, the idea takes shape: to dedicate a smoking figurine to the singer from Boží Dar for his 150th birthday.
Imagery of Hutzenabend, guitar and song sheet — how should Anton Günther be depicted in wood without slipping into cliché?
Body on the lathe — height 21 cm, wall thickness around 4 mm. The figurine is taking initial shape.
Seated pose on a bench among trees, guitar in his lap, song sheets within reach. This version forms the basis for the completed piece.
Attaching the beard, lacquering in several layers, final assembly — by early May every step is done. Anton sits, holds the guitar, waits for 5 June.
On 5 June, Anton finally takes his place — presented, handed over, in a small handcrafted edition.
The smoking figurine is now available. Order, payment and shipping are handled directly by the Kunsthandwerk Eva Beyer workshop.
Order nowEmerged from the Seiffen master workshop of Manfred Preißler — a 180-square-metre workshop where smoking figurines, candle holders and commissioned pieces are made by hand. From selected woods, in the classic steps: turning, sawing, drilling, sanding, painting and lacquering, assembly — and, it's perfectly fine to say it, a great deal of love. Visitors are welcome to watch the work in the workshop rooms.
This page presents the Hommage edition and the workshop. The Anton Günther smoking figurine is now available directly through Kunsthandwerk Eva Beyer — purchase, payment and shipping all run through the workshop. On request, individual small editions are also possible — for company anniversaries, club occasions or special birthdays.
